Things to Do in London in December

The festive lights are up, the hats and gloves are on, and you either love or hate the John Lewis advert.

Whether you love Christmas or not there's plenty going on in London in December.

 It's busy, really busy, so book ahead to avoid disappointment and queues.

Here's some ideas of things to do in London in December.





1) FESTIVE SHOWS


Get in the festive spirit and head to a festive show with loved ones.

Everyone say it together 'It's behind you', boooooo, hisssss.


PANTO


Aladdin is at the beautiful Hackney Empire from 18th November-24th December.

Directed and starring Clive Rowe

Tickets are £10-£45


If you are looking for a more relaxed panto experience this one is for you.

Peter Pan will be playing at Wandsworth Civic Suite from 16th-23rd December.

Tickets are from £11-£13 and the performance lasts 90 minutes.

The family friendly performances are daytime and there's also sensory-sensitive performances.


Rapunzel is at Theatre Peckham from 5th-24th December.

A modern day hairy-tale.

Jack and the Beanstalk will be playing at The Broadway Theatre 13th-31st December.

Tickets are priced £8.50-£35 and the performance lasts 2 hours.


Wonderville is Home to magic and cabaret in the West End.

They are hosting 2 shows this festive season.

Santa Rocks is a magical family Santamime, suitable for the whole family.

Tickets are £18.50 for adults and £13.50 for children.

Puss in Boots is an adult LGBTQ+panto produced by Above the Stag.

Tickets are £25 and it's running from 4th-31st December



FESTIVE SHOWS


ELF THE MUSICAL

Elf the musical is back at The Dominion Theatre until 6th January

If you love the film you'll be able to re-live your favourite lines in real life

Tickets range from £27.50 to £135.


You can see 'Oh No it isn't from 12th December until 6th January.

A play by Luke Adamson, set behind the scenes of a panto.

Tickets are £10 in previews and £15 or £17 after.




The Ever After Garden is back at Grosvenor Square

A beautiful and tranquil place to visit.

There's 25'000 illumated roses and each rose is and dedicated to a loved one.

You can sponsor a rose from £10 and can visit the garden from 3-9pm.

All the proceeds go towards The Royal Marsden.







3) MASSAGE


December can be stressful with a lot of expectations and events.

Treat yourself to some me time and get yourself a gorgeous massage.


Spa Massage have branches in Chiswick, Bayswater, Earl's Court, Belsize Park, Crouch End and Richmond.

I had a massage at their Bayswater branch from Oana and it was amazing.

La Belle Jolie is a wonderful and friendly spa and salon in Crystal Palace.

You can book a therapeutic, deep tissue massage, Indian head or hot stone massage.

I've had an amazing facial and also milia removal from the salon.





Zowie Georgia is a wellness space on Shoreditch High Street.

Zowie has a focus on healing the body as a whole and holistically.

Every massage is bespoke and will include different techniques.

You can also book reiki healing massages, sports and couples massage, as well as

cupping therapy and healing.

They offer a mobile service and can come to you.

Zowie Georgia is highly rated across Google, Fresha and Treatwell.







4) WINTER BAR


You don't need to go to an expensive ski resort to visit an alpine themed bar.

Get cosy in one of these winter bars in London this December.


Tipis on the green is a pop up bar and restaurant in Parsons Green.

There's an alpine inspired menu and winter warming cocktails.

Indulge in a champagne lunch for £25 each, raclette and bottomless margarita brunch.

They can accommodate large goups and are open until 22nd December.


The rooftop Lucky Club in Camden has transformed into a wooden panelled ski lodge.

There's magarita Mondays, bottomless fondue and happy hour.

There's even photo opportunites with a ski gondola.

They also offer a Sunday roast with gravy fondue!!


The Midnight Apothecary is a roof garden and you can book an outdoor festive experience.

Tickets are £8 and you can hire your own fire to toast Smores.

You even get a tour of the entrance of Brunel's Thames tunnel included in the price.

They support local businesses and suppliers.

There's drinks, street food and a choice of an early or late sitting.






5) VISIT A GIN DISTILLERY


If you love gin, London has an abundance of gin distilleries you can visit.

Have a little tour, learn something new and drink some gin.






58 and Co is an award-winning, sustainable distillery in London, founded by Carmen O’Neal.

You can book a 3 hour masterclass, and distill your own gin recipe.

You'll learn about gin, taste gin and enjoy cocktails and charcuterie.

The experience costs £125 and is available on selected dates.


Sipsmith Distillery is in beautiful, leafy Chiswick.

You can book a distillery tour and tutored gin tasting for £25.

You'll learn about the distillery, history of gin, have a tasting and get a little gift to take home.

During December you can also book festive crafts at the Distillery.

You can buy distillery tour gift vouchers.


The Beefeater distillery is in Kennington.

Beefeater is a London dry gin that is made to the same recipe since the 19th century.

The distillery tour is £25 and lasts 90 minutes.

First you'll walk around the interactive exhibition. You'll then be guided through the history of gin and Beefeater gin.

Your guide will then take you through a gin tasting of 3 gins.

You'll then visit the still house and end with a G+T.

A VIP tour includes all this and afternoon tea and costs £45.

They also have a festive fair included with distillery tours on 9th and 10th December.

You can also buy the tours as gift vouchers.






6) EAT CHEESE


Is there a better time to eat cheese than winter?

Head to these places to eat raclette or fondue.


Fire and Fromage is bought to you by Jimmy's pop up.

Expect ski chalet vibes next to the river Thames.

There's fire pits, unlimited raclette and marshmallows for toasting.

The unlimited raclette menu is £35 a person.

If you want to get cosy you can book a snow globe where you can enjoy a fondue feast, they even have a vegan option.

You can also visit Chalet Suisse at Somerset House Skate.


Champagne and Fromage have bars in Covent Garden, Greenwich and Brixton.

All year round you can visit for sharing boards, raclette and baked camenbert.

This can be all washed down with champagne. For the champagne lovers there's tasting flights.


The Swiss Bread bakery brings a little piece of Switzerland to a corner of Richmond.

It's an authentic cafe and bakery serving Swiss food daily.

Fondue is available for bookings and walk ins at lunchtime for at least 2 people.

Everything is fresh and home made.

Dogs are also welcome, so perfect to combine with a winter walk in Richmond Park or the river.






7) TAKE A THEMED TOUR


See London through a different lens on a themed tour.


Rebel tours offer alternative walking tours in London.

This Christmas you can join them for a 'What the Dickens' Christmas walking tour.

Tours last 90 minutes and happen at weekends.

Discover the locations and inspiration of Dickens in London.

Have a tour of London in an iconic black cab.

During the festive period the house is open later for silent evening tours £20.

9) BARS WITH FUN ACTIVITIES


Gone are the days you head to a bar for just a drink.

There are now themed bars to have some friendly competitive fun.





Toca Social is an immersive football experience in London at the O2.

You can book a football box for 30, 60 or 90 minutes and for up to 12 people.

The food is modern- Americana themed.

You can also book to dine and have access to foosball tables, arcade games and selfie booths.

You can play mini golf in London at Plonk Golf.

There's branches in Shoreditch, Camden, Borough and London Fields.

There's indoor and outdoor courses, beers, cocktails and games.


Clays bar offers virtual clay target shooting.

There's a branch in the City of London and Canary Wharf.

You compete with your friends with interactive target games on giant screens.

Ever fancied axe throwing, well now's your chance!

Whistlepunks is located just behind Oxford Circus.

The sessions are instructor led, wear closed toe shoes and an outfit you can move in!

Prices are from £25 and last 70 minutes.

Afterwards you can head to the bar and eat pizza!


Jack and Boule is a destination on the Southbank to play urban boules.

There's also street food, craft beer, cocktails and bottomless brunch.

55 minute sessions are from just £4 per person, with up to 6 people per court.

 





10) EAT GIANT FOOD


December seems like a perfect time to eat huge food items, with your friends of course.


Philippe Conticini have bakeries in South Kensington and Buck Street Market.

Order an XL croissant for breakfast at Philippe Conticini for £25. You can get a giant pain aux chocolate for £28.

Perfect for a fun, sharing breakfast and a great photo opportunity.

You must pre-order.

Metro Pizza in Battersea is where you can enjoy London's longest pizza.

They have been in London for 30 years in Battersea.

4 pizzas make up the metre long pizza, you can choose different toppings and it's perfect for sharing.

On Sundays there's 2-4-1 on pizzas when you order a starter.

They offer gluten free bases and vegan mozzarella also.
